A network to share best practices for children with special needs
Just a quick heads up that September is ADHD Awareness Month! We all know family members, students, children and adults with this diagnosis and the challenges it can bring. Many years ago our team here at Abilitations had the great pleasure of helping on an episode of the popular TV series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The show (now cancelled but showing in reruns) features lead designer Ty Pennington who states he was diagnosed with ADHD at age 17.
We spent a week onsite at a suburban Detroit home (the family included a son who has autism) working side by side with the show designers including Ty. I so recall his off the chart energy, enthusiasm and passion for what he was doing all while maintaining an aura of cheerfulness and generosity. Seems Ty learned how to harness the power of his busy, creative brain and has become a success story for many with this diagnosis. Check out his candid blog entitled ADHD Awareness Month.
