My Special Needs Network

A network to share best practices for children with special needs

I would like to introduce you to ITV Signed Stories. We produce storybook apps that are specially designed for deaf children, and those with Special Education Needs.  I hope they could be of benefit to the children in your networks. Here at Signed Stories, we believe that all children should have access to great books!

The apps have animated stories performed in American Sign Language from ASL masters Peter Cook, Keith Wann and Pinky Aiello, with supporting captions and narration.

Maureen Wagner, a retired schoolteacher and interpreter says the apps are "life-changing for deaf children and their families". A teacher of deaf children in Nevada said: "The students I work with ask me all the time ‘when is a new book coming?’ It has enriched their love for reading in a way that is beautiful to behold."

Stories are selected to support the delivery of Common Core State Standards and the ECERS-R scale. Each app has a video dictionary to build vocabulary, and stories come with two interactive language learning games.

You can download free Signed Stories app from the App Store and enjoy the free book ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’.

Signed Stories Book Bundles for Schools have been developed for schools that buy apps through Apple’s Volume Purchase Program. There is a 50% discount available to schools buying 20 or more copies of each app through the Education Store.

We know Signed Stories apps are making a huge difference to children’s lives across the USA and we hope you enjoy using them as much as we enjoy making them.  We would love to hear from parents, carers and teachers so please feel free to get in touch with feedback or any questions.
