I work with special needs children in their school setting daily. I see their accomplishments, struggles, and frustrations and am very blessed to be a part of their lives. My mother is also paraplegic and in a wheelchair and has been for 5+ years now. I see her struggles on a daily basis and long to be able to ease her struggle.
Skills: these are areas where I have expertise and might be able to help others.
FINE MOTOR, VISUAL MOTOR
Needs: these are areas where I have questions and will be looking to learn from others.
BODY WORKS, FINE MOTOR, INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES, POSITIONING, RESOURCES, SENSORY SOLUTIONS
The most valuable piece of advice I would offer to others regarding special needs.
Kids are Kids are Kids!!! Always see them as a kiddo first then work to build their skills the best you can. A diagnosis is merely a label with possibly some medical implications revealed, but always look at specific skill needs rather than the label. Besides, we all have some kind of special need! :)
