Hi, I am wondering on why does a resource teacher doesn't know on how to handle my grandson and any one else child who has adhd, sensory disorder intergration, neorobehavior?  I thought they all got trained on how to handle them. "Maybe some oral motor? A child I work with has SID, also VERY oral. She keeps a chewy in her mouth at all times and that really helps her. I also use oral motor vibratory tools with her, jaw massage - these also help. There are chewy pencil toppers…"

"Hi Cynthia, the best thing i find is to distract him form putting objects in his mouth...sometimes making him aware will only make matters worse as they start liking all the attention they get!  But it is not easy at all...good luck"

Hello, I have a grandson who lately has been putting everything in his mouth:  coat collar, collar, pencils, eraser, small objects, small toys...and also, I notice he has been very loud. . just out of the blue he would just hollar or maybe he would just be loud with strange sounds.  He has been doing these at school as well from what the school has been sharing with me.  any suggestions on how I could help him.  If I lived by myself I would just let him be with it but I am staying with a friend…See More

This is why I am passionate about special needs.
I work with Native American Birth to Five year olds who has some special needs by sharing with parents along with the child in helping them reach their potential in what ever it may be. I am an advocate for the parents to help them in getting their child help in the special services the public school has to offer.
Skills: these are areas where I have expertise and might be able to help others.
FINE MOTOR
Needs: these are areas where I have questions and will be looking to learn from others.
COMMUNICATION, INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES, RESOURCES, SENSORY SOLUTIONS, VISUAL MOTOR
The most valuable piece of advice I would offer to others regarding special needs.
to learn all you can about the needs the child may need and to be an encouragement to the parents that may not accept or understand what exactly is the matter with their child. to be a supportive buddy.
What I hope to gain from My Special Needs Network
to learn all I can in all different areas of special needs for I work with all varieties of special needs children in being an advocate as well as a home visitor to them.
