A network to share best practices for children with special needs
Tags: camp, summer activities
I spent some time as a volunteer at a therapeutic horseback riding camp. We had children with cerebral palsy, autism and other special needs. No matter what the disability or range, something magical happened when those kids interacted with the horses! Posture and muscle tone improved motor skills increased, verbal skills emerged and most of all the amount of smiles produced was amazing! I have heard of similar good results when working with kids with special needs in a dolphin assisted program. Does anyone have any experience with our water friends?
Good to hear about the therapeutic horseback riding as I am in the process of signing my children up to a program this summer.
I am sure they will enjoy and learn from it! Send us a picture from camp and let us know how they are doing. Best wishes!
