A network to share best practices for children with special needs
I have been trying to figure out how to add a cozy corner to our home where my children, particularly my son with special needs, can go to calm down, decompress, think, etc. Time outs and other such things do not work, so I want an inviting area he can choose to go to. the problems - limited space and wondering how to keep the times in the corner just there - not taken and migrating all over the house. Any ideas?
A small children's tent, or a child's sized rocker, and or some floor pillows, or a bean bag chair. And one or two small plastic containers or baskets with some comfort/calming items in them, such as some sensory fidgets, pad of paper and crayons, some books, a puzzle, and a small booklet of calming strategies. A blanket could also be included in the area.
